The Wonderful Wombats of the Huon Valley is a new children's book written and illustrated by Barbara Birch Ramsay, a talented artist who fell in love with the native wildlife of Tasmania. The book features beautiful and colourful illustrations of wombats and their habitats, as imaginative stories about these amazing animals.

These pioneering images were created on the digital art platform Midjourney.

Wombats are marsupials that live in burrows and feed on grasses and roots. They have strong teeth and claws, and can run up to 40 km/h. They are also very social and playful, and can communicate with each other using grunts, hisses, and squeaks.

Barbara started working on this book during the Covid lockdown, but it was only recently that she discovered Midjourney through the platform Dischord, that enabled her to complete her project. This is her first picture book, and she hopes to inspire young readers to appreciate and protect the wombat population. Barbara is also the co-creator for The Edge of Nature Tasmania, a business that produces both miniature and life size sculptures of wombats and other Tasmanian wildlife.

This book is dedicated to Wombat Rescuers and Carers across Australia. 50% of the profits go to  Wildcare Bonorong Fund (and local business) supporting the operations of Bonorong’s Wildlife Sanctuary and Hospital in rescuing and caring for Tasmanian wildlife and

supporting education and awareness programs about Tasmania’s wildlife and its conservation

Wildcare Tasmania is a not-for-profit charity caring for wild places, wildlife, and cultural heritage.
